Vantastic!

Vantastic!

Sorry, but it had to be said. After all, these days when do you come across an LDV Pilot as good as this one?

Vans have hard lives and what was part of any high street scene up and down the country in the 1960s, 1970s or 1980s seemingly disappears overnight. MK1 Transits were easily going by the early 1980s, Mk3 Transits come the early 2000s.

As for LDV Pilots? Well, they just went, much like the Leyland Sherpa they were based on. Other than the Royal Mail, it was smaller businesses, tempted by the appealing lower-than-rivals price, who went for the smaller LDV.

They got the job done. They were reliable. But when worked into the ground, if they weren’t broken-up, they were thrown away. It’s like a switch was thrown and almost immediately all Pilots were swept from the UK’s roads.

And that’s why this 2003 200 Diesel being offered in Manor Park Classics Online’s 5-12 February sale, is a stand-out offering.

It’s covered a WARRANTED 22,952 miles from new, and there have been three former keepers. It has a sensible £3500-4500 estimate, with a starting bid of £1000.

Go on – admit you want it. Survivors like this are truly few and far between. Let’s hope it isn’t converted into a camper van, because it deserves to survive as it is.

That is fabulous! Can’t remember the last time I saw one, nevermind a low mileage example.
