A cuppa at CCW’s Cars and Coffee
Classic Car Weekly’s monthly Cars and Coffee meeting has got into its 2025 stride with a healthy mix of classics at its 15 June meeting. From a selection of TRs, from 2s to 6s, to a Mercury Monarch – and all points in-between, here was a cracking way to pass a couple of hours.
And…. The most likeable thing is the event’s lack of one-upmanship. There’s no ‘my car’s better than yours’ and all that nonsense: instead, good banter and many laughs meant those 120 or so minutes passed in the blink of an eye.
The Special was there with the mighty Fourtrak, which over that weekend racked-up 550 miles. And the guv’nor’s Dad, who’s 91, enjoyed the car selection, and especially, being a Triumph man, those TRs.
Our favourite was the modded Ford Consul Classic, whose candy paint and slot mags affected a pleasingly 1970s’ air. Ditto the modified, V8-engined Mk2 Zephyr which was a great reminder of those Harris brothers Zeds of the same decade. Both Consul Classic and Zephyr thoroughly deserved a ‘Spirit of Hot Car magazine c.1977’ prize.
And let’s not forget the Transport Museum (wythall.org.uk) backdrop: It’s a great place to visit and proves it’s not just those better-publicised museums that keep the classic vehicle spirit alive.
