Way out West

Way out West

Two weeks after The Special headed to Bicester Scramble it was time to again brave January’s refrigerator-like temperatures for a trip to Synod Inn, out in Ceredigion, for the first of Wheels for Wales’ Cars and Coffee 2025 monthly meetings. The venue, Popty Kate’s Bakery, was easy to get to and any drive to this destination, where the A487 crosses the A486, is worthwhile.

This time Mrs Special’s Daihatsu Cuore was used. It’s rolling on re-furbished (in gloss black) steelies, the seriously good re-furbishment carried out by WheelWorkz, who turned the job in around in two days. Mrs Special has added a set of new wire effect wheel covers that score points for being very reminiscent of 1980s dealer special wheel covers. All that’s missing are thin vinyl coachlines, a glass sunroof and a ‘limited edition’ badge on the back – or perhaps not.

The much re-freshed Cuore was in good company; OK, this was never going to be as big as Scramble, but small events never lack in enthusiasm, and that was the case here. Two Chevrolet Corvettes were a good sign, as was Marlboro-logoed Toyota Starlet – much kudos in these politically-correct days to be carry a tobacco-related logo.

Add a Porsche 911, a Volkswagen Corrado and a ‘how long can you go?’ Golf and the mix was good. We’re definitely heading back next month.

*Big thanks to Chris and Owen at Llanelli’s Welsh Dragon Tyres for sorting out the failing valve.

  1. Great post, mate! I think you mean “how LOW can you go” for that Golf though! 😉
