B is readied, Fourtrak takes an evening stroll
After the best part of a decade slumbering in The Special’s place of storage the ’32 is poised for some much-needed work. And it can’t come a day too soon says Mrs Special.
A decade ago the B went through its MoT test, saw some use and was put away in the winter. And, despite best intentions, never properly exercised. But, at the start of the lay-over, it was (partially) re-wired and some progress made on smartening-up the interior.
A whole list of jobs to be done was created but little on that list was accomplished. Now, thanks to Swansea’s finest, Mr R, things are just about to begin. Lift-off centres on some much-needed bodywork tidying-up, and this is being done by an English-wheel genius on the England/Wales border.
It’s then scheduled for a thorough mechanical re-commissioning plus a 12-volt conversion and the fitting of indicators.And…. Then there’s the interior which at one stage looked like a hand grenade had been let off. It’s partially re-trimmed but there’s still much to do when it comes to the headlining and door cards. But that’s just about in hand now.
Meanwhile at the end of a day that began with getting the ‘32 ready (and sorting out The Special’s 261,000 miles X-type 2.1), things were pleasantly rounded-off with a trip into the Carmarthenshire hills not far from Special HQ. The Fourtrak hasn’t seen much use of late so a good run-out to watch the sunset was a fine way to round things off.
