October Bicester Scramble
October Bicester Scramble
It was an early start for The Special’s Daihatsu Fourtrak but that pre-sunrise alarm clock ring was more than compensated for by a day of great cars and equally great company.
The last Scramble of 2023 saw a bumper crowd and for them a chance to see the many businesses that make Bicester Heritage such a special place. From Austin A40 pedal cars to early Bentley restorers to classic dealers – not to mention a cracking car magazine – it’s all there. Along with a thoroughly decent autojumble selling, well, automobilia, and not tea towels or yellow dusters.
For those who are already committed classic lovers the Scramble is an endorsement of why we love what we do, for those tempted to dip a toe in the classic water it’s the final push they need to join. That’s surely no bad thing, whether you veer towards a Cricklewood Bentley or lust after an air-bagged ’90s E-Class Benz.
The downside (if there was one) was we didn’t have to time to go into the public car park for a mooch around because we’d been too busy catching-up with old mates. Still, there’s always 2023.
With the likes of the October Scramble, the Goodwood Revival, Castle Combe’s Autumn Classic and the VSCC Welsh Trial, Autumn’s surely the best time of year for the proper classic enthusiast – who needs the Summer?
