For some classic owners Midsummer means only one thing, and that’s the RAC’s Midsummer Drive-in.
Held at its Woodcote Park location, for several hours classics old and modern gather on the lawn while owners and friends enjoy the rarely-found atmosphere. The only rule is there is no rule, no set-in-stone diktats about how old a car should be, or what condition it should be.
And with that broad-brush approach the Lancer was booked in and parked-up, joining a selection of Bentleys, Rolls-Royces, Ferraris and Aston Martins, as well as brace of Benzes entered in different categories, mainly related to their country of manufacture.
A Toyota Celica Supra joined the Lancer in representing Japan, these two in the ‘Joy of Ownership’ group and facing tough opposition from a first-generation Camaro as well as 1968 and 1970 Ford Mustang convertibles.
And in a ground-breaking moment for The Special, the Lancer gained a rosette for second place in its class. Cue much joy for the car’s owner…
