A nail in the tread

Project 55’s been racking up the miles in the past few months and it has the accolade of being The Special’s first car of 2025 to need a new tyre.

Heading to the beach recently things Project 55 was a tad unpredictable at the back and some tail-happiness was enough to warrant a closer inspection. A good look underneath didn’t show anything other than the nearside rear tyre being a little squishy.

That was, however, enough to prompt a visit to local tyre gurus Welsh Dragon Tyres, our highly-recommended supplier of treads to all The Special’s fleet.

There was little chance of effecting a repair as a large nail was embedded where the sidewall curves onto the tread. There was nothing for it other than a replacement tyre – we opted for a Runway Enduro 165/70×13 to keep Project 55 on the road until a full set replacement come the Spring.
