Why you SHOULD buy this

Fancy a proper big 1960s coupe and realise a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III MPW or a Facel Vega HK500 are out of your price league? Well, there is hope, and it comes Cadillac-sized and Cadillac-badged.

Step forward the 1962 Coupe de Ville that’s being offered by Southern Cars which, if you’re reading this in the Home Counties, is up North. Near Manchester in fact, so it’s a no-excuses easy to get to.

Anyway, there’s much to like about this CdV, beginning with the fact it’s had a lot of sensible mechanical re-commissioning (brakes and gearbox service) in the past couple of months, having been stored for the previous 10 or so years and with the last owner for 34 years.

And it’s being sold by someone who know their onions: seller Sam Grange-Bailey was destined to work in the trade, her Dad starting Southern Cars and selling a plethora of American cars alongside Bentleys, Jaguars, Rolls-Royces – well, you get the idea.

Priced at £17,995 it’s one that really shouldn’t be missed. Early 1960s Cadillacs don’t come to the market all that often and when it comes to looks, waftability, courtesy of its 390 cubic inch (6.4 litre) V8 and a host of power accessories what are you waiting for?

Blackpool seafront or the casino at Deauville, it’s equally at home…

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY IT

If you want a truly viable HK500 alternative this is it

If you want effortless long-distance cruisability this is it

If you want running costs lower than those of a Silver Cloud III MPW this is it

If you think a late-1950s Cadillac is too cliched, this is the answer and it’s for you

WHY YOU SHOULDN’T BUY IT

If you crave a low profile, it’s not for you

If you have a small garage, it’s not for you

If you don’t want people asking ‘what does it do to the gallon?’ it’s not for you
