The joy of white roads
The joy of white roads
For those who really like ‘motoring’ getting truly off the beaten track means resorting to white roads, those small, often short (but occasionally long) lines you’ll see criss-crossing the countryside.
Exploring these narrow roads is utterly infectious: They invariably offer a reminder of road use in the past, and usually with some top-class views along the way.

This picture was taken high on the hills near Broadway, the road probably once a drover’s track. It was well-surfaced too but with a paucity of passing places, not one for drivers incapable of reversing – as we found out from the car in front.
Nevertheless half an hour of proper roads was an antidote to the A-road and motorway that followed, but we’ll be back on the roads less travelled very soon.
