Toyota Hi-Lux

The rugged Welsh countryside means farmers need equally rugged vehicles to carry out their business: Close to The Special’s HQ there are still plenty of Daihatsu Fourtraks – although their numbers are gradually declining – and Toyota Hi-Luxes.

And here’s one example of the latter, recently pulled from a barn in Llanidloes, that’s undergoing a full-on restoration. The 1998 ‘Lux was with one family from new until being bought recently by a friend of The Special.

As a bit of background it’s covered 115,000 miles from new. Unsurprisingly it’s still as strong as an ox, and both chassis and cab are sound. Some work’s going to be needed with the rear tub, but after a good few years grafting in the fields that’s hardly surprising.
