ZX values on the up
Remember the Citroen ZX? Maybe it’s an age thing and you had to be there when it was new, but the Escort/Astra rival is now seeing an upswing in interest as more people – including a friend of The Special – snap them up.
But don’t take our word for it – research by Car & Classic shows that from August 2022 to August 2023 the number of searches went up by 43 percent, with a consequent increase in demand for the ‘analogue’ model.’
“It’s great to see an increase in popularity in cars like the ZX on Car & Classic,” says the site’s head of editorial, Dale Vinten. “Its competitor at the time, the Ford Escort, has seen enormous increases in values, making the prospects of ownership slim. Even the Vauxhall Astras of the 1990s are also selling well, and this data suggests people increasingly consider the ZX as a more affordable alternative.”
Car & Classic suggest values vary between £1400 and £3400. “The former gets you a 1992 ‘Aura’ 1.6 with 69k miles, a short MoT and good service history, whilst the latter will get you a 1995 Volcane I 2.0 with 49k miles that has benefitted from a recent service and a longer MoT,” a Car & Classic spokesman says.
